Trapped in a dead-end existence after being throw out of the Terran Tactical Force, 34 year-old ex-military Junior Grade Lieutenant Kath’ryn Kass now finds herself the Captain of a decrepit interstellar freighter – The Intrepid Star. Working for the Raven Ore Corporation on Mars, she shuttles a rare crystalline ore back to Earth from the distant edge of human space. Corismite crystals are needed for the design of deep space vessels and have driven mankind to the far-flung reaches of our solar system and beyond.
It is nearly the new century, and she captains the deep-space freighter in 2098 near to the border with a race known as the Flexani – an advanced octopoid alien species who first encountered humankind 70 years previously. In the beginning of their encounter, man and Flexani shared technologies, and the Flexani helped mankind reach out into the galaxy with technology capable of traversing the stars. Now however, no longer do humans and Flexani interact as this fragile peace fell apart.
Deception and hatred during that first decade forced mankind into its first interstellar war with the aliens. After the last great battle fought around Jupiter, peace accords were signed. An unstable agreement now persists, keeping interactions at a minimum. But both sides knew a second war was coming – no one knew when.
Kath’ryn now finds herself at the centre of this new Stellar War with the Flexani. The Intrepid Star is the first victim in this new battle with the aliens. Little does she know what mankind has its own agenda. Her own crew dead, fate throws her into a strange partnership with a Flexani known as Gen6aC who has been ostracised from his own race. The two of them race against time to try to unravel the clandestine plans of both homeworlds’ leaders, and stop the impending Second Stellar War from destroying them all. Kath’ryn must battle with her own demons and beliefs in an epic race that could decide the fate of the solar system.
